Jeremy Jacobs is a transfusion medicine clinical fellow in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Jacobs’ research interests include optimizing the blood transfusion process for patients requiring blood as a component of their medical therapy. He also has an interest in improving the diversity of the blood donor population to ensure the availability of compatible blood for patients from all racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Representation of Diverse Populations in Blood Donations and Transfusions

Only 20% of blood donations in the U.S. come from people belonging to underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. As the U.S. population becomes increasingly diverse, it is important that there is an equally diverse blood donor population.
