Jan K. Wachter

Jan K. Wachter is a professor in the Department of Safety Sciences at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is also the program coordinator for his department’s PhD program. Dr. Wachter received his BS, MS, MBA, and Sc.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds degrees in theology. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Wachter was employed by various Fortune 100 companies and at the U.S. Department of Energy at their national laboratory complexes. His major areas of interest are safety ethics, safety management systems, and the use of human performance approaches for achieving safety excellence.

Communication for Climate Action

Framing climate change as a health and safety issue and educating people on how they can make meaningful improvements to prevent climate change was effective in motivating them to take climate action.
